Screws and bolts

Using the right fasteners is essential to get strong and durable assemblies. To this end, Telenco store has selected a wide range of screw and bolts to offer you various tightening assembly solutions to meet your needs. Depending on the tasks you must do, you can find screws made from different materials, in different shapes, with different heads, different types of threads, and many other variables so that you can find the best way to fasten your components.

How to identify the type of screw you should use depending on your task?

Before choosing a type of screw for your assembly work, you need to consider several features: the head, the imprint, the material it is made of and the material on which it will be fixed.

Countersunk screws are the most used ones as they offer a smooth surface thanks to their head that aligns with the substrate to which it is attached, which means they can be inserted completely into a support without sticking out. Hex head screws offer excellent torque which allows for greater force. Indeed, the flat shape of the head allows for more pressure and contact.

There are different screw imprints, each associated with a screwdriver shape that optimises its tightening. The so-called flat recess is the most common one; it is suitable for light tightening. The cross-shaped Philips recess offers a better grip for easier tightening. A Pozidriv screw is an improved variation on the Phillips drive design as it has 4 additional branches for a total of 8. This offers even more grip, especially when technicians are using screwdrivers: greater surface contact engagement between the drive and the recess in the fastener head make it harder to slip.

The material of the screw –and the bolt- determines its resistance to its environment. Telenco store offers zinc-plated steel screws as they feature good corrosion resistance. Screws made of stainless steel are even more resistant to corrosion and are preferred for outdoor work.

Screws can be used to assemble different kind of materials. Wood screws are suitable for use in hard and soft woods and are also used for soft materials such as plastic or plasterboard. They are usually made of steel or brass. Machine screws are excellent for fixing very rigid materials. They are similar to bolts, except that they have a socket in the head, allowing them to be driven with a screwdriver.

Bolts, or lag screws, can be used like screws; the difference is that the thread does not reach the head. They are widely used in carpentry work, for example, and the smooth part helps to compress the two elements to be joined. In addition, their hexagonal head provides an excellent grip with spanners or an impact driver.
