Carabiners / connectors
Safety connectors and carabiners attach workers’ harness to the anchorage points on a structure in order to prevent a fall or to decelerate the fall in order to minimise the impact force on the worker’s body. Telenco store offers professional grade equipment for field engineers working at height.
How to properly choose carabiners for a work at height?
When selecting a carabiner, workers should consider how and where the connector will be used in the fall protection system. Different overhead works require different kind of snap hook. To select a proper snap hook, suitable for the job you need to do, you need to consider its shape (D shape, pear shape, oval etc.), its gate type (straight, bent, wire gate, locking gate) its size and its strength. For example, an asymmetric D carabiner has a larger gate opening but is less strong than D-shaped carabiners. You may also want to pay attention to the gate opening. It is often indicated in millimetres and refers to the width that the gate can open.
The Work At Height Safety Association states that carabiners conforming to BS EN 362: 2004 should be used when working at height. Connectors conforming to certain classes of connector in BS EN 12275: 2013 also meet the requirements of BS EN 362: 2004, and these ones are also suitable.
In addition to routine checks for each use, PPE should regularly undergo a detailed inspection by a competent professional. Telenco store recommends an inspection every 12 months and after any exceptional event in the life of the product.
