It identifies breaks in cables, connectors and splices. These cable continuity testers enable telecom field engineers to locate faults, check continuity and polarity of the fibre over long distances. Indeed, they can detect large defects in multimode and single mode optical fibers: macro bends in the fibre, bad junctions between two soldered fibres, break points, etc. A VFL is an essential accessory of your fiber testing equipment as it makes it easy to determine quickly whether the fibre is in good condition. How does a Visual Fault Locator work?

The VFL emits visible laser light through fibre optic cables: if there are breaks or defects in the fibre, it will refract the light, creating a bright glow around the defective area. The red light source will highlight large defects and faulty splices.
